Worker honeybees are all females....
and they are the only bees most people ever see.
They forage for food and build and protect the hive, amongst many other functions.
Honey bees also groom themselves to pack the pollen into special pollen baskets on their legs.
Male bees are called drones.....the third class of honeybee. TF "It's a fact ..........Promise I didn't make that up!"
Several hundred drones live in each hive during the Spring and Summer, but they are expelled for the Winter months when the hive goes into a lean survival mode.
The ancient Egyptians kept domestic bees and sealed pots of honey were actually found in graves of Pharaohs such as Tutankhamun. The honey was still edible, AMAZING ! Don't you think? So the 'Use By Dates" on the honey would of said 5000 AD since the honey in Tutankhamun's tomb was 3000 years old. Wow!
Fact: The ancient Greeks associated lips anointed with honey as the gift of true eloquence.
Fact: Honey has been used in medicine for at least 2,700 years to treat a variety of illnesses but honey's antiseptic
and antibacterial properties have only recently been explained.
Why are Bees important?
This is about People as well not just Bees. Healthy bee populations are important to human health and well being.
A colony collapse is economically significant because many agricultural crops are pollinated by bees.
Why are bees in danger?
In the past few years honey bees have experienced substantial declines. The cause or causes of the losses are not yet fully understood but it's believed that a number of factors have contributed.
The FOUR most significant are: Enviromental changes. The loss of flower-rich habitat on which bees depend for food.
Disease is another serious concern and then, of course Climate Change! There has also been a massive decline in the number of bee hives in the UK-- nearly 75% in this past century.
How to attract Bees
Remember beautiful flowers, a good crop of friut and veg all depend on pollination.....and for that we need....you know who!

DIY Honey and Egg White Face Masque: Ingredients: 1 egg white, 3 tablespoons honey, 4 tablespoons plain yogurt.
Mix all the ingredients in a blender to make your masque. First scrape hair back and keep well away face then smooth masque all over face leaving out mouth and eye areas. Place one slice of cucumber on each closed eyelid. Lie down and have a little rest for 10 mins. To remove use tepid water. Then splash with cold water. So far this masque has made me feel refreshed but hasn't made me look any younger ....but I live in hope! P.S. Maybe best not to do this outside in the Summer months it may attract lots of unwanted Drones.
