1: Remove all previous varnish with cotton wool and nail varnish remover, then do the same with cotton buds to get into the little nooks.
2: Using an emery board shape the nails, starting with the thick side first to shorten nails, after finish with the finer emery board to perfect the shape. Tip: Make sure that the emery board is not too slanted whilst filing, because this will thin the nail and make it liable to breaking. You are supposed to file from outside into the centre of nail. But I've never felt this actually matters.( Go on all you Professional Manicurist's write in and tell me I'm wrong!!!!!!!!!!!)
3: Massage a dot of cuticle cream into the cuticles and allow nails to soak in a bowl of warm slightly soapy water. After one minute remove and dry off with a soft towel. Christian Dior Creme Abricot cuticle cream is expensive but brilliant. WWW.DIOR.COM

4: Paint a little cuticle remover around the cuticles. With a cotton bud gently ease back the cuticles.
Only use cuticle clippers if you really need to. ( The more you use them to cut the skin the more problems you will have long term) Cuticles are there for a reason......to protect your nails.

Tip: Cuticle Care: this is the most important part of a manicure. To get strong nails the cuticles must be in good condition!. This is one of the ways a nail breathes...so perfect cuticles equals perfect nails. Also please don’t worry whether you have half moons or not this is generally hereditary.
5: Next bit is the fun bit.........gently massage with hand cream. Starting with the whole hand first, then link fingers through each others, gently rotate the wrist area in a circle.......to free the joints. Then massage palm and top of hands. Moving down to finger joints, gently massage all the separate hinge joints of fingers and finish off by massaging cuticles and nails.
FACT: Girls do more work around the house than men, therefore their hands deserve a lot more TLC !!
